Identity Theft
Prevention is the best policy. Learn how to protect yourself against identity theft and find out what to do if you think you may be a victim. Here are a few guidelines that will make it more difficult for fraud artists to target you:
- Don't disclose information to strangers on the Internet, by telephone, or through the mail.
- Shred or destroy credit card offers and other documents that contain personal information.
- Examine statements for unauthorized charges.
- Be aware of calls or letters from debt collectors on goods or services you didn't buy.
- If you stop getting bills by mail, or they don't arrive on time, confirm that your biller has your correct address.
- Be aware of calls regarding accounts you did not open or transactions on your account you can't explain.
